Wednesday, February 13, 2013 Do you want to know if you are eating GE salmon?
The FDA claims it will pose no threat...but is this the truth?
GE Salmon is genetically engineered salmon created by a company that spliced a growth hormone gene into Atlantic salmon, forcing it to grow up to five times faster, and reach market size in about 18 months instead of 3 years. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released an Environmental Assessment (EA) with a “Finding of No Significant Impact” on the controversial AquaBounty AquaAdvantage transgenic salmon. The human health as well environmental impact of this first ever GE food animal is unknown. There is a serious threat of GE fish escaping into the wild and causing problems to wild salmon and becoming a threat to their survival. This not to mention the negative effects we already know of from human consumption of GE foods and now we are going to be force fed GE fish, a.k.a. "Frankenfish." Do you want to be a guinea pig? Vote to stop the approval of GE salmon. If it does get approved, also vote to have it be clearly labeled so that we know what we are eating.
