Oppose GE Salmon!

Do you want to know if you are eating GE salmon?

The FDA claims it will pose no threat...but is this the truth?

GE Salmon is genetically engineered salmon created by a company that spliced a growth hormone gene into Atlantic salmon, forcing it to grow up to five times faster, and reach market size in about 18 months instead of 3 years.  The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released an Environmental Assessment (EA) with a “Finding of No Significant Impact” on the controversial AquaBounty AquaAdvantage transgenic salmon.  READ MORE about Frankenfish here

The human health as well environmental impact of this first ever GE food animal is unknown.  There is a serious threat of GE fish escaping into the wild and causing problems to wild salmon and becoming a threat to their survival.   This not to mention the negative effects we already know of from human consumption of GE foods and now we are going to be force fed GE fish, a.k.a. "Frankenfish."  Do you want to be a guinea pig?  Vote to stop the approval of GE salmon.  If it does get approved, also vote to have it be clearly labeled so that we know what we are eating.

Support the Labeling of GMO's!

GMO's or Genetically Modified Foods are entering our food supply at an extremely fast pace.  Did you know between 75-85% of processed food contains GMO's? Unfortunately at this time the FDA does not require labeling in the U.S.  While the European Union as well as Japan and Australia all require labeling, why is it that our country does not?  I would prefer to know what I am buying and what is in my food.  I would like to be able to make my own choices about what foods to eat - yet with genetically modified foods there is no way to know what we are actually eating. 

Genetically modified foods have had their DNA altered.  Scientists accomplish this by inserting certain genes into the DNA of the plant.  For example, in the case of the majority of soy, as written in my Soy Deception Book, researchers have inserted a gene that makes the soy plant resistant to the pesticide Roundup®.  Therefore, in order to control weeds, soy plants can be sprayed liberally with Roundup® without hurting the soy plants.  Scientists and advocates believe that altering the DNA of plants will increase the yield of crops and maximize profits.  Furthermore, they claim this process is done for the good of all people as it will result in stronger plants and an increased yield which will help feed the world.  Unfortunately, with the growth of GM foods becoming more common, we are all being experimented upon.  Since the proper studies have not been completed, no one knows the long-term effects of these genetically modified foods.

Genetically Modified Foods - Not for Human Consumption!

Genetically modified (GM) foods may look and feel the same as conventional foods, but they are drastically (and possibly harmfully) different.  A genetically modified (GM) food is a food derived from genetically modified organisms (GMO’s).  Through genetic engineering, scientists have discovered how to change the DNA blueprint of certain foods.  They take the genetic material (DNA) from one species and transfer it into another in order to obtain a desired trait.  GM foods are promoted to help make crops resistant to disease, to increase protein and vitamin levels making food more nutritious and to make fruit and vegetables last longer.  

GM foods can lead to many health issues and problems as it is introducing antigens or bacteria not originally found in the food source. There are issues with potential toxins, allergens, carcinogens, new diseases, antibiotic resistant diseases, and nutritional problems that may occur with ingesting GM foods and GMO’s.  Children are particularly at risk since they are still in the growth stages and are more susceptible to GMO effects.  

Over 70% of grocery food is GMO not to mention the GMO feed animals are being fed that then are part of our dairy, eggs and meat from those animals.  No testing or labeling is necessary or demanded by the FDA.  It is up to you to make choices in your diet so you can avoid GMO's.
